This is a repost from another favourite music blog of mine called Eightys Vinyl and the first of many that will feature a download in it’s original form that has been ripped from a long deleted 12″ single.

I was completely obsessed with Pseudo Echo back in the day. What was not to love…cool clothes and hairstyles, makeup , SYNTHESiZERS and electronic drum kits. What more could a growing boy need in a band? This was one of their first singles from the seminal Autumnal Park  album which everyone should have a listen to. I don’t think enough credit  has been given to these guys as I truly believe they were pioneers of electronic music in Australia and a bigger deal should be made of it. A “rock n roll” hall of fame exists and if there was one for Electronic music in Australia, I vote for these guys to be in it!!

Admittedly, it did go a little wrong for these poor lads with the likes of “Funky Town” a few years later, but after speaking with Brian Canham about this (that is another blog post i promise) its easy to see how a record company trying to keep up with the Bon Jovi’s of this world could try turning a Synth group into a Big Hair Rock n roll band.

More details on this release are posted in the link below….download link is where is says “listen”

    March 5th, 2013adminTechnics 1200/10

Again, I could not have a blog called 12inchsingles.com without featuring a post on the most iconic turntable of our era, and the first piece of Hi-Fi equipment that got dragged into DJ culture without ever intending to. The term “they don’t build them like they used to” was really coined to describe this extraordinary piece of engineering by Panasonic. In any case, after 20 or 30 years of solid use even the best of anything should really get treated to some TLC. For any of my friends in Melbourne town that own an old pair of Technics 1200/10s (and that’s quite a few of you)  and are looking to having them serviced, repaired or even modified, I have linked to my good friend Greg “ASIO” Peppas’s Facebook page below. He does great work, has got shitloads of original parts and if like me your decks have served you for a long time without missing a beat, best you give them some good ol’ TLC since you can’t even buy a new pair any longer.  If your little tracking light is out, you want to get rid of that pesky ground wire once and for all, new heavy duty RCAs or recalibrate the pitch, give Greg a call. At the very least “like” his page so if you ever need him he’s only a click away!!

If you find this post from another part of the world and know of another good Technics 1200 Dr. , please add them in the comments below.

    March 5th, 2013adminHall & Oates

So as you’ve probably gathered by now, i really love music. Hall & Oates were top of my list when i was little and this track in particular was probably my favourite. It’s very rare that you get a non commissioned mix that can surpass the original by using all the original parts, and in this case, and I dont know how, this mix was actually reconstructed from the original multi track. Sonically and structurally its amazing and clocks in at 8 minutes +. Put together by our dear departed mate Bob Walker this one is going up to keep his memory alive. Here’s the description from his Soundcloud page written by none other than Philvester:

“FNQ’s Bob Walker left no stone unturned when he took on this remix. Working from multi-track, Bob carefully rearranged the entire production, shifting the tempo down to 111 BPM and bringing all the best parts of the track up in the mix. Arranged in Logic – a major amount of reconstruction of the arrangement took place with a hint of additional production that does this classic justice. Bob left us on December 3 2012 after putting up a very brave fight against Cancer. I spent a quality week with him in hospital before he passed and his dying wish was to hear this classic remastered. He got his wish – thanks to Melbourne’s mastering guru – Tony ‘Jack the Bear’ Mantz. RIP Bobby – this one’s up, as you wanted.”

If you’re ever gonna play this tune out….This IS the definitive mix…320k mp3 for you kids!!

    March 5th, 2013adminChicane

Liger lover and all round top bloke Luke Chable has been hiding this one from us for only about 11 years now…cheers mate!!

Anyway better late than never and since prog breaks are a bit light on the ground these days here is a little revamp of the classic “Offshore” by Chicane he did in 2002 and it still sounds rather good. The original was released in 1996 on this EP which is still one of my prized records (which I had to give my original copy to Ashley Beedle way back but that’s another post) and if you are really nice I may even upload the full 12″ at some point. This EP was by Chicane  which at that point in time was 2 guys, Nick Bracegirdle and Leo Elstob. The record books won’t tell you this but I will coz i know stuff. Leo departed the duo not long after this and all I’m going to say and to put it in the nicest possible way, I never played another “Chicane” record ever again….Bryan Adams??? Really???

Lukey boy has been nice enough to gift us a nice WAV here…Respect to all Liger lovers!!

    March 4th, 2013adminNew Order

For a blog titled 12inchsingles.com, it would be out of order (pun intended) not to feature the biggest selling 12″ single of all time. Blue Monday by New Order (1983) introduced for the first time to many people the concept that synthesizers, drum machines and Indie music could live happily together and that a Top 40 record did not have to fit into a 3 minute soundbite. In its day it sounded like a transmission from a machine music future and with hindsight we can see now how much this track has affected music trends in the last 30 years. At nearly 7.30 secs, “Blue Monday” is one of the longest tracks ever to chart in the UK and never released as a 7″ single this had a lot to do with it becoming the biggest selling 12″ of all time. Featured here as a re-edit that has been done extremely tastefully by Lee Combs. Adding an 808 laden Electro-fied intro this mix has just enough spice added to add a little sparkle to a gorgeous gem. Presented here as a 320k mp3 for your listening pleasure.

As a little bonus, here is the launch of the Pioneer CDJ2000 NEXUS in Melbourne featuring the vocal from Blue Monday mashed with about 8 different genres in as many minutes.

This is a repost from one of my favourite music blogs Methods Of Dance and the first of many posts which will feature the full CD maxi single or 12″ release of a track in a High Quality encoded digital format. These posts are for my friends and people like myself who own the original item on vinyl and simply don’t have the time to re encode the track and all the mixes to a digital format. If you don’t own the single GO OUT AND BUY IT!!!

So without any further ado, here is one of those tracks which if you were on any kind of proper dance floor in the nineties you couldn’t have avoided. A track which was originally released in 1990 then remixed in 1992 by Sasha, then released again and achieved Number 44 on the UK Pop Charts with this release. With mixes from the Brothers in Rhythm and new mixes by Sasha and including just about every mix ever made of this tune, this could not have failed as a dance floor release in those days. My favourite mix right now is James Wiltshires Ambient mix which has weathered the test of time quite well. The Brothers In Rhythm Soundtrack Club Mix brings back some epic memories. If you would like a 320k digital copy of this to compliment your vinyl 12″ then click here. Link is in the comments on that blog with a password for the file next to the link

    February 13th, 2013adminRick James

Rick James, what a bad ass!!! “Cold Blooded” was a hit funk record for Rick in 1983.  He wrote the song about his relationship with actress Linda Blair (exorcist girl with green spew and spinning head…lucky guy). I played this record out a few years back now and to my delight, I found the underlying kick still had it on the modern dance floor. What it needed was a simple chop and re splice to make it fit in the set easily and simply. Our Man Duke Slammer has done exactly what was needed here, a little extension and breaks exactly where they are needed with a couple of fancy filtered edits. Well played son, well played. Presented here as a nice downloadable and playable 320k Mp3.

    February 11th, 2013adminBilly Ocean

One of my favourite Billy Ocean tunes of all time “Nights” was released in 1981 and is probably one of the classiest of Billys hits. I still cannot understand how we went from this to “Get Out Of My Dreams” but anyway…Here is a little chop shop edit by Maily in which he just extends the track a little but not much more…i guess you should not mess with perfection. Presented here as an uncompressed WAV for your listening pleasure.

    February 11th, 2013adminKate Bush

Quite a few edits of this classic 1985 Kate Bush bomb floating about, but I have to admit this effort by Amine Edge seems to be one of the best sounding and contemporary with a great groove accompanying the original quite nicely. Thanks to Mr. Edge for making this available for free download as a 320k MP3 and dont forget to check some of his originals, as he makes some very nice house tunes!!
